A Primer on G Prime
May 15, 2025
Just as crayons come in a variety of colors, fillers have several characteristics which make them unique and different. One of these properties is something known as G prime, a measure of viscosity and resistance against pressure.
The higher the G prime, the greater the lift capacity and support a filler will give to the area injected. In certain situations, a higher G prime is best. For example, when mimicking the definition of the cheekbones, or a smooth and taut jawline and chin, an injector will reach for a filler with a high G prime such as Restylane Lyft, Radiesse or Juvederm Volux. It should be noted that Radiesse has the highest G prime of all injectables currently in the market.
Alternatively, when thinking of areas where more movement and expression are desired such as the lips and perioral region, an injector will prefer lower G prime options such as Restylane Refyne, Restylane Kysse, Juvederm Ultra XC and Teoxane RHA 2 or RHA 3.
Typically, the higher the G prime, the greater the longevity of the filler. However, other factors must be considered such as the depth of the injection, type of filler selected and the individuality of the patient.
The beauty of aesthetic medicine is that the injector gets to choose which filler and level of G prime will achieve the artistic goals on the canvas of the patient.
